Nomination Guidelines and Criteria

The College of Humanities
and Social Sciences Outstanding
Service Award was established in 1996 to recognize and honor
H&SS staff members whose job performance and dedication to the operations
of H&SS merit special recognition.
Previous recipients are Michele Colon (1995); Gail Dickey (1996); Margaret Kinsky (1997); Carole Deaunovich, Sandra Harris, David Stevens (1998); Vanessa Calvin, Theresa Kurutz, Kathy Majors, Mari Alice McShane (1999); Nancy Monda, Stephanie Dickey, Rosa Stipanovic (2000); Vera Lampley, Susan Kravitz (2001); Rose Krakovsky (2002); Barbara Dorney (2003); Natalie Taylor, Vickie Makel, and Rosemarie Commisso (2004); Janice Trygar, Jackie DeFazio, and Sharon Blazevich (2005); Sue Connelly and Emily McCall (2006).
ELIGIBILITY
The award is open to all regular full-time and regular
part-time staff members. Those who received the award 3 or more years
ago (2003 or before) are eligible to be nominated again next year.
CRITERIA
The basis for selection will be excellence in the areas
of Job Performance, Dedication, Positive Attitude, and Citizenship.
The following descriptions are offered as guidelines for nominations.
Job Performance
Individuals display excellence in job performance by
producing quality work consistently and dependably. They display a deep
knowledge or expertise in their field. Exhibiting pride in accomplishment,
they strive toward job-related self-improvement and seek to enhance
both product standards and work efficiency.
Dedication
Dedicated individuals accept responsibility and make
the extra effort to complete a task. They are willing to go the extra
mile and try alternative methods as necessary. They are determined problem-solvers
who are not easily discouraged by challenging situations.
Positive Attitude
Individuals display courtesy, helpfulness, self-assurance
and enthusiasm. They are strong communicators who do not focus on the
obstacles at hand, but rather on overcoming those obstacles.
Citizenship
Individuals have a sense of community within their department,
the college, and the university. They have strong interpersonal skills,
and show respect for the ideas and feelings of others. They share information
and offer their time to others. They build harmonious working relationships,
based on loyalty and commitment, that improve productivity and promote
shared goals.
NOMINATION PROCEDURES
CMU staff members, faculty members, graduate students,
individually or as a group, may submit to the nomination committee a
packet which includes the following:
- Either a completed
nomination
form or a comparable letter
of two pages or less justifying your position that the nominee satisfies
the criteria set forth.
- A letter of reference
from the nominee's immediate supervisor. If the supervisor is the
original nominator, then one other student, faculty, or staff member
should submit a letter of recommendation as well. Please use the nomination
form or letter
submission form for letters.
- Any other information
the nominator(s) may consider appropriate can be forwarded via email
at joanneu@andrew.cmu.edu or delivered to the H&SS Dean's Office, BH 154
