Something always is going on in H&SS, whether it's an innovative student project, groundbreaking research, or a faculty-authored bestseller.

--Tuesday, April 22, 4:30 PM in Baker Hall 154R, The Center for the Arts in Society’s Research Forum welcomes special guest speaker Frédérique Desbuissons, Associate Professor of Art History, Université de Reims Champagne-Ardenne, France, who will speak on Portrait of the Artist as Beer Drinker: Gustave Courbet.

--The students in Jim Daniels’ advanced poetry workshop will be giving a reading at 1:30 p.m. on April 28 in the upper level of the Carnegie Mellon Bookstore in celebration of National Poetry Month.

--The Center for the Arts in Society is hosting the End-of-the-Year Presentations, interdisciplinary projects by students in the arts and humanities, on Tuesday, April 29, at 4:30 PM in the Steinberg Auditorium (Baker Hall A53). Reception to follow in the Baker Hall Coffee Lounge. For more details visit the CAS website.

--Novelist Russell Banks will present the final talk in Carnegie Mellon University’s 2007-2008 Adamson Visiting Writers Series at 8 p.m., Friday, May 2 in the Adamson Wing, Baker Hall 136A. After Banks’ lecture, which is free and open to the public, Carnegie Mellon’s Department of English will present its annual Adamson Awards to honor student writing.
