Benjamin Reilly graduated from New College of the University of South Florida (now New College of Florida) in 1993 with a B.A. in history, then received his M.A. and Ph.D. in history from the University of Pittsburgh in 1997 and 2002 respectively. Dr. Reilly’s original training was in European history, particularly the interplay of ideology and politics during the radical phase of the French Revolution. In the last few years, however, Dr. Reilly has broadened his interests, and now conducts teaching and research in the fields of European/Islamic relations, travelogues as historical sources, and environmental history. Dr. Reilly has written a number of journal articles, mostly on the topics of French Revolutionary history and pedagogy, as well as two books on environmental history, with a particular focus on the interplay between human beings, their environment, and “natural” disasters. Dr. Reilly teaches at Carnegie Mellon University’s campus in Qatar.
