Dr. Ruth Fauman-Fichman serves as Adjunct Professor in the Department of History. She received her Ph.D. in Archaeology and Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Anthropology, where she received a National Science Foundation doctoral grant to conduct research on the organization of household craft production in the cotton thread industry in Postclassic period Morelos, Mexico. Her course at Carnegie Mellon on the role of the environment in the collapse of ancient societies applies anthropological and archaeological perspectives that are applicable to current global issues. Dr. Fauman-Fichman also teaches Pre-Columbian Art on the University of Pittsburgh campus. Dr. Fauman-Fichman’s research interests include Mesoamerican and Andean prehistory, human-environment interaction, craft production and ethnobiology. She is currently involved in archaeological research in Tlaxcala, Mexico.
