Dr. Elenore Long,
Director
Throughout her graduate career,
Elenore worked at the Community Literacy Center, both to coordinate mentors and
to conduct (with a team of others) the Center's initial educational research.
Her dissertation, entitled The rhetoric of literate social action: Mentors
negotiating intercultural images of literacy, is the fruition of these joint
roles. After completing a post-doctoral fellowship with the National Center for
the Study of Writing and Literacy, she took a post as an assistant professor of
Communications at nearby Robert Morris College. A joint-appointment between the
Community Literacy Center and Robert Morris College has permitted Elenore to continue
working at the CLC, doing what she loves to do: writing with teenagers; interrogating
borders and boundaries; making events happen; and discussing, reading and thinking
about some of the most interesting issues of our day. With Linda Flower, Elenore
edits the Community Literacy Network Newsletter.
