The Arts Greenhouse is a community outreach program sponsored by The Center for the Arts in Society at Carnegie Mellon University.

The program is targeted to teenagers around Pittsburgh who would not otherwise have an opportunity to take music lessons or record a CD.  Through a year-long series of workshops with two instructors, spoken-word pioneer and community activist Luqman Abdus-Salaam, and musician and producer James Brown, participants learn about the music business, how to make hip-hop beats, write lyrics or raps, and be a producer. The workshops culminate in recording songs for a CD with Riccardo Schulz, Associate Teaching Professor of Music at Carnegie Mellon.

Workshops and recording sessions take place primarily at Carnegie Mellon with some additional classes, beat-making workshops, and recording sessions occurring at recording studios in the Pittsburgh community. At the end of the series of workshops, the compilation CD of the students' work is produced and distributed around Pittsburgh.
