How to explore career options

It goes without saying that one of your best resources for targeted major and career information is your Career Consultant who can help you identify employers and learn about the latest trends in the job market. Additionally, the Internet continues to be unsurpassed as a resource to access current career information. Here are several excellent sites for you to consider:

O*NET, http://online.onetcenter.org/
The US Department of Labor source of updated occupational information and labor market research. Interactive skills-based database to describe worker attributes.

America's Career InfoNet, http://www.acinet.org/acinet/
America's Career InfoNet is a resource for making informed career decisions to support a demand-driven workforce investment system.

DISCOVER (an on-line career guidance program)
Includes career inventories to explore how your interests, abilities and values relate to the world of work as well as searchable information on occupations, majors and schools. To gain access to DISCOVER, contact your Career Consultant for log in information. It is highly recommended that you meet with your Consultant again after completing the career inventories to get the most out of your individual results.

Occupational Outlook Handbook, http://www.bls.gov/oco/
A searchable database of thousands of occupations developed and maintained by the U.S. Department of Labor.

What Can I Do With This Major?, an online resource.

Book stores, public and school libraries, and the Career Center Reference are also good resources for books on careers: Here are a few titles that deal directly with career exploration.

Do What You Are, Paul Tieger and Barbara Barron-Tieger, Little, Brown and Company.
